Do your homework! In the reviews section CHANGE the reviews sorting order to “Most Recent” and watch all the 4 & 5 star reviews (notice they’re all from 2019!!!) VANISH and turn into all the disappointed 1 & 2 star reviews that have become the expectation over the last two years. I’m baffled as to how the rating system still awards such a high 4-5 star rating (sounds so solid and reliable) when easily 70%+ of the reviews in the last couple years are 2 stars or less. Bet you can’t count more than 5 satisfied customer reviews in a row since 2020. Try it! I literally scrolled the entire way back to the very first “Early reviewer rewards” just waiting to see when the performance was supposedly so great with all the happy reviews to back it up; when exactly was it that 70-80% of customers gave it 4-5 stars as indicated in the overall rating? The answer… 2019. The very first reviews began in 2019 and I did notice as I worked down to the very earliest posts, people seemed more consistently satisfied in general BUT do you care if people liked it in 2019? Or do you care that most buyers over the last couple years are reporting it’s full of problems??? The overwhelming majority as the years have passed have taken a sharp turn for the worse. Based on the last two years reviews this product a seems to earn a 2-3 star average rating. (And I’m being generous there. Lol)Now the actual issues: The problems are notoriously noted somewhere between 2 weeks and 2 months. (Some get a few extra months.) Problems listed range from poor battery life, stopping unexpectedly without warning, spinning out of control when the rider steps off, going in reverse only, among other issues. Our experience: Grandparents purchased 3 hover boards (one for each granddaughter). We heard the other 2 units have had no issues. Ours, on the other hand, worked great for about a week. Our daughter loved it and we thought it was excellent quality. Very smooth. Bluetooth was perfect. Such an awesome machine!!! Just before the second week mark, in mid-ride, trekking along at a good speed, it would just DIE —a total DEAD STOP——no warning, essentially sending our child flying child off as she continued leaning into the forward momentum. This was occurring with a full battery after several minutes of a seamlessly perfect ride. Terrifying!! (Side note: The only user of the machine was our little six year old daughter, indoors, so there was no abuse and no reason for this sudden change in reliability. We WANTED to ride it too, but didn’t due to weight restrictions. We didn’t want to break her expensive, beloved favorite toy!) So…We let that little surprise slide a couple times over the next few days, but then it began randomly doing the “death spin”, (as another reviewer called it) where she stepped off when done riding, and upon dismount, the unit began shaking violently with one wheel spinning wildly while the other locks up causing it to whirl and buck around in an unpredictable, violent fit. We realized this was not an isolated incident and along with the other problem we decided we received a lemon. Told the grandparents to please arrange a return so we could get their money back and we would just order another on our own.Seller was responsive and sent the grandparents a prepaid return label and fully refunded their money.Hoping the first one was a fluke since the other two cousins’ hover boards were still going strong and based on the very high 4.5 star rating we decided to try this company/brand again but in different color. Maybe the pink batch had defect issues? So we bought her a gold one. It appears to be a completely different model/style. The lights are different and everything. Maybe this is a newer improved model? Perhaps it would be less apt to defect as the matte colored series.Upon opening we calibrated it but strangely it didn’t detect our daughters weight, despite her being over the minimum weight required. Please note we calibrated/reset both machines several times as we’d clearly prefer to find a way to fix and keep the hover board rather than taking the trouble to repack and return. This unit didn’t detect her body weight until we put a book bag on her loaded with about 8 pounds of books. It did detect her then—but there were other issues. Keep in mind, the pink never had problems detecting her being on the board. We let her ride it with the backpack’s extra weight for a few minutes but the lights weren’t properly working, and one side of the machine still struggled to turn on/go. There was also a strange vibration when she did get it going. No reset/calibration helped. We immediately contacted the seller to return that same day. He was very responsive asking that we try resetting before returning but with no further push back he sent us a prepaid return label. Very cooperative and I grateful for that.I returned the hoverboard and luckily SAVED the UPS tracking number/receipt as the return isn’t picked up by Amazon’s tracking system bc the seller sends his own prepaid label to you, you’re taking Amazon out of the return arrangement at that point. The seller is in Canada so it took 10 days for UPS to deliver to seller’s facility. Thankfully I saved my tracking receipt and could see package was delivered to and accepted by the seller. I knew to give the seller a few days to process refund and for it to show up. Yet 19 days after I’d mailed it… I still had no refund. That’s 9 days after seller received it. I reached out to Amazon’s customer service who contacted the seller. I provided screen shots of UPS website tracking with the UPS proof of delivery/seller acceptance of the package with date and time stamps. So… with all of this provided right up front with my inquiry to avoid any confusion or push back, the seller immediately refunded my money. But a word to the wise: save your original box, and if you do have to return save that tracking receipt, follow the tracking and be prepared to check on the refund once it shows as delivered to the seller. So, in summary, we’re pretty disappointed. Our child loved the first hover board when it worked (for the first week or so) before it became downright scary to use bc it might just die with a full battery and no warning and send her flying off at full speed. The second was such a dud there’s nothing good to say bc she didn’t get any significant use out of it. BUT to my knowledge, her cousins still use and love theirs (from this same seller). The way it seems, it’s truly a crap shoot as to whether you’ll get a lemon. We received two defects out of two attempts. And based on that we just can’t trust this brand again. And after investigating today I realize most don’t seem to fair well with their purchases of this brand these days. Heaven forbid we try again with another from this seller and it defects again. I feel like at that point he’d give push back on the return. Or even worse— it might work for the 30 day return window and THEN defect like so many others report! So good luck if you decide to try this brand!(Sorry for the long review but I like to share the whole story!)
